Your prepaid card can expire. Depending on the type of card that you have taken out your funds may also expire - meaning you can no longer spend them.

Be sure to check what type of card you have, and what any expiry periods are as soon as you receive it.

Promotional cards (often given as part of a sign-up deal by retailers, or as a reward by organisations) expire, and the funds on these cards can also expire meaning they are lost.

Non-promotional cards are different. Whilst the card itself can expire, the funds cannot. This means that you will still be able to access your funds after the card itself has expired, although you may have to contact your bank to do so.

You should know

Where available we include the Internal Ombudsman of a bank in the escalation process. This is in-line with the FCAC complaints process guidance:

If you already have a final response from your bank that is not to your satifaction, you can choose to escalate for a Third Party Review regardless of whether you have been to the Internal Ombudsman.
