If an item is out of stock, you should contact the business to ask them if they'd consider getting more of the item in. While they're under no obligation to do this, your feedback could persuade them!
Bait and switch selling
Bait and switch selling is when a business advertises a product at a bargain price but doesn't have a reasonable number available.
This is against the rules (unless the product is out of stock for reasons outside of the business's control). A business will normally offer you a rain check when their supplies of a sale item are exhausted (meaning they'll let you come back and pay the discounted price when the product is back in stock).
Sale item out of stock
If you've gone to buy a sale item that's out of stock, the retailer may give you a rain check, letting you come back and get it at the discounted price.
